SerendipiTea
On Sunday, June 5, 2011, Windham County Reads is hosting a country tea, and all area lovers of spring, fine food, literature and visual and performing arts are invited. Held on a beautiful Guilford sheep farm from 2 to 5 p.m., Spring SerendipiTea has been planned with adults in mind. Tickets are $25. per person, and proceeds will support the Bookmobile.
Throughout the afternoon, cameo readings and performances will take place in the gardens and in the farmhouse great room. Three tea tables, each laden with a unique selection of tea sandwiches, desserts and hot and cold teas, are certain to provide gustatory pleasure. Those who attend can choose to take the serendipitous approach and wander at will, or can use a provided schedule to plan the afternoon.
Participating authors are poet Chard deNiord and novelists Deborah Lee Luskin and Emily Arsenault. Featured musicians are jazz pianist and Vermont Jazz Center director Eugene Uman, the a cappella group Shoulder Narrows, and accordionist Robert Tucker.
In addition, artists Caryn King and Lesley Heathcote will welcome visitors at their easels, flower gardens will be in bloom, and the Bookmobile will be open for curious browsers. A walking trail leads to a woodland pond and a 100 mile view.
East Hill Farm is the home of the McLarney and Little family and a sizable flock of several breeds of sheep. In case of rain, all events will be held in the farmhouse great room. Call (802) 257-5725 to make reservations, or just show up with checkbook in hand. You can download directions and a schedule right here.
